Unishipping International, a GPLN member in Bulgaria, recently undertook a move for French company, GTS Industries, a member of the Mithals Group.

“The total project was for three back up rolls which weighed 95 tons,” said George Belev, managing director of Unishipping International, “And it was a fine example of moving project cargo by multimodal means.”

The cargo was delivered all the way from Dunkerque in France via Antwerp on a pontoon barge.  The cylinders then traveled from Antwerp to Drobeta Turnu Severin in Southwestern Romania on the by river barge over the Danube.  At Drobeta Turnu Severin the cargo was reloaded by 250 ton heavy geared crane on pontoon barge to Oltenita and discharged by gantry crane on to trailers and hauled overland to Bucharest General Turbo in Bucharest.

But this move isn’t over.  The cylinders will be overhauled in Romania then sent on to Indian customer Essar Steel Corporation in India.

“In late May the cargo is scheduled to ship on the second leg to Mumbai via Constanţa Port,” said George Belev, “And I promise to keep my GPLN partners updated on the progress!”
