Rolitrans International, GPLN member in Jakarta, Indonesia, successfully completed the shipment of two fully assembled Turbo-Compressor Packages.

"This was a very challenging job with a number of special requirements particular to these units demanded our full attention" said Stephan Behrmann, Director of PT Rolitrans International, Jakarta.

Purchased by oil company Total Indonesie from Nuovo Pignone, Italy (a subsidiary of General Electric) these two modules, consisting each of a fully assembled aero-derivative gas turbine and compressor, will be used in East Kalimantan to increase the pressure from the gas fields to the processing plant being some 350 km apart. Both modules, each measuring 29 x 6 x 18 meters and clocking in at approximately 350 metric tons will be installed on a floating rig and towed to it's final destination off the East Kalimantan coast.

"The units were designed to stand on only 3, in relation to the module, tiny supporting points once installed on the rig. This posed a real challenge when it came to distribute the weight on the ship's deck. The height of the units, measuring approximately as high as a five storey house demanded thorough calculations of the reaction and acceleration forces to prevent tipping and sliding during the voyage" Stephan Behrmann said. "An elaborate system of heavy-lift platforms criss-crossed by heavy-duty beams along with a combination of stiff/elastic lashings ensured that stringent IMO regulations were observed and the units were safely transported from Marina di Carrara, Italy, to Jakarta, Indonesia."

Rolitrans, who signed responsible for this transport, is proud of having successfully proved again to be a competent partner when it comes to move super-heavy lifts.
